What is the little box next to sender in mail app?

As leroydouglass stated, this is harmless. Just delete the email as you would any other meaningless emails.

Now, if you wish to no longer receive emails from this sender, please look at he bottom of the email. There will be an unsubscribe link; it may be hard to find as they want you to stay in concact, but it is there in one form or another. Do unsubscribe.

Could you provide a screenshot (without personal information) of what you refer to? Use the "mountain" icon in the toolbar at the bottom of the posting to insert your screenshot.
