Where can I learn about sound cards for MacPro 2019.

Dear Forum,

I am wondering EVERYTHING, such as when it is advisable

to have one, what do they do, what are the parameters for

making a decision, and on & on. Any tips, thanks !!

BTW, so far using and RCA to USB-C has NOT been satisfactory

for running a tuner/amplifier. I just want to blast my computer-stored

music out my speakers attached to the tuner/amplifier via the

computer controls.

Back Up, then Reinstall:

Did you ever back up the Mac, and then reinstall the macOS, as I mentioned above? If not, the please proceed with doing so. Seeing so many errors with volume, then that seems where to go from here.

Is there a Sound Card even seen?

To Find Out:

  1. Go to: Apple menu
  2. Select: About this Mac
  3. Click: System Report... button
  4. View: Audio on left-column
  5. Click: Audio
  6. View: Devices
  7. Confirm if a Camera is Even Seen

A Deleted App:

You've deleted the app from your Mac, but the app resides on the Dock.

Reinstall the macOS:

To reinstall this item, reinstall the MacOS. Nothing would be deleted. It's just that items that have become corrupted or deleted, would be replaced or reinstalled back to where they should be. Go Here: How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - Apple Support

Important:

Create a Time Machine Backup, First:

Prior to the re-installation of your macOS, be certain to backup your Mac using a Time Machine Backup. That way, you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the reinstall. Use an external hard drive that is at least 1.5 the total storage capacity.

What this Tells us:

It tells us that there is are three audio devices that you can choose for audio output:

  • Dock Speaker
  • External Headphones
  • Mac Pro Speakers

I’m not so certain on the top item’s manufacturer (I want it). A bit iffy as to whether or not you should trust it, as I’ve never heard of that. So, maybe it is just a brand to stay away from — perhaps with a bad reputation?

Thanks Grant.

Not sure if it is EXACTLY this one, but likely.

First of all my sound would go up and down by itself.

Long visits with apple support could not explain it.

Then SUDDENLY one time the sound exploded and

ran way high. After that, it was fuzzy. Using the

RCA to 3.5 headphone jack has been adequate for now.

Dang, Steve z. That’s gotta be annoying… try running Audio MIDI setup.. As far as I know, at least on the Mac side of things, especially with usb-c, external sound cards are few.. and i see you have one if the new Mac Pro’s, you lucky guy you… you could either go for a USB DAC … or something from Creative…those are the only ones i know that support Macs( and Pc’s) and have software for both… there are internal sound cards, but they are all, afaik, PC only.. unless you want something semi- professional and are willing to pay the price for it.. eg $1,000, plus you need to buy an addon box, as the card is useless without one.. see this link for a little more help..

not much to go on admittedly… but there you go
