After a Big Sur update (11.3 (20E232)) on my MBP Mid 2014 retina im unable to change brightness of the display with the keyboard, and in the menu bar (its greyed out). Even in the system preferences, cant find the brightness settings.

First, be sure you're taking the steps below to adjust the brightness. Keep in mind that in macOS 10.10 and later, the Brightness slider may no longer appear in the Display pane of Displays preferences.
Change your Mac display’s brightness
If you haven't already, restart your Mac. Restarting sounds simple, but can quickly resolve many unique issues. From there, switch to another user account, then see if the same issue occurs there. This can help identify whether this could be user-specific, or system-wide. Another way to isolate user settings is to start in safe mode. Here's how:

Did you also have a chance to test the issue in another user account? If not, this can help isolate the issue to a specific user settings, or something more wide-spread. If needed, here’s how to create a new user: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.
Additionally, we suggest resetting the NVRAM, since this can also help reset stored settings. Here's how: Reset NVRAM or PRAM on your Mac.
