resource busy error

HI
I am trying to format a new external drive (Western Digital), however I keep getting the message 'Resource Busy'.

I have tried to format using Terminal commands but still get the same message.

Some googling suggest that it might be an issue with 10.5.

Can anybody shed any light on this or a way around this.

Many thanks

Macbook and Dual 2 GHz G5, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Hi macjack

The enclosure I am installing the drive into is a USB that holds 2 drives and has been setup for mirroring.

I have had 2 drives in there already, both made by Samsung which are okay, but are full now so i'm replacing with new WD drives.

The new drives are Western Digital Caviar Blue 500gb.

One odd thing is that if I place each of the drives into a single desktop caddy, they are readable and I have been able to format them with no problems. So it seems there is some conflict with this external DAS system.
