When will there be an update to the iPassword app for iOS 14.5? I'm unable to get to my passwords.

I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.

I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.

Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.

Don’thold your breath for Apple caring for loyal customers, i had hundreds of thousands of pictures in Aperture and they killed it and replaced it with Photos.

In this thread there is a perfectly working solution, get an old iphone (in case buy it secondhand and then sell it) use the iMazing software to move iPassword there and you get access.

That's a clever workaround Oodle544, however I wouldn't trust this developer going forward. I have switched to 1Password; it is desktop and mobile and, therefore, less likely for this to happen in the future.

Someone did contact the developer on Twitter and he said he was going to fix the problem, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Make sure you have backups if you stick with his apps.

Why is Apple included in your shaming? There are 300,000 + apps, if they tested every app when there was an update to see if they still work it would take thousands of employees and they would need to raise fees for the developers. Apple sends beta versions of new code to all developers it is THEIR job to ensure their software continues to work or warn people if it doesn't. And there have been many examples of reputable developers warning their uses (they have a mailing list, not Apple) that they are not ready for users to update.

I also got blindsided with this. Saw all the attempts to find a solution. Got my old iPhone 4s, charged it, booted it up and was able to access iPassword and update the written copy I made a few years ago of all the IDs and passwords. The 4s is pretty much useless except as a backup but I will hold on to it for things like this. I’ll never have to worry about the new updates to iOS messing up the 4s since Apple abandoned it around iOs 9 or thereabouts.

Strongly recommend that one take the time to make - and then hide - a list of the passwords and IDs on any password manager.

it doesn't look like the developer is even thinking of updating the legacy iPassword. He made a fundamental error in deciding to start developing the new version from scratch without any plans on an upgrade path. Now it sounds like he's trapped by Apple policy to correct the issue by importing the legacy data into the new iPassword.

The only way out is for him to support the legacy iPassword long enough to folks a chance to recover their data. I'm not understanding why this is so difficult for him to undertake.

Let me guess, you have never read your agreement with any of the apps you ever purchased from Apple have you?

For Apple to do what you want they would have to get the original code of the developer and literally take over the applications in question. The update did not "break" these apps, the developer did not bother to keep up with new requirements and update their apps. They were offered the chance but failed to so.

This is an awful situation! I was one of the lucky ones who just upgraded my iPhone recently before installing iOS14.5, so I was able to get to the app on my old phone with 95% of the passwords current. If you’ve had this app for years like me, hopefully you can dig up your old phone and not be totally screwed. Just make sure it’s not on iOS auto-updates or it will blow up too!
