My iPhone X does not respond to touch when in sleep mode.

My iPhone X does not respond to touch when in sleep mode. It has also been behaving weirdly in randomly opening apps and trying to FaceTime with someone I'm on a call with. I've tried soft reset, hard reset and factory reset. Not sure if it's a software issue or not, but it started when updating to latest 14.5 iOS.

Thanks for getting back with us, fulton610. It's unlikely that there is a hardware issue on the iPhone if the diagnostics all passed. Restoring your iPhone again and setting it up as new would be helpful to determine if the cause of this behavior is something within your backup files. Once you're able to take that step, please let us know how it went and we can definitely continue assisting with this. If needed, the instructions for that can be found here: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings.

Thanks and have a great evening.

Hi there, fulton610! Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

After reviewing your post, it sounds like you are experiencing some unexpected behavior from your iPhone X. We definitely understand that those behaviors can be a concern and we'd love to help. You mentioned that you did a ‘factory reset’ on your iPhone. Can you explain exactly how you did that? Was it done with a computer running iTunes / Finder and restored, then set up as a new device? Or did you apply an older backup onto the iPhone right away?

Also, do you have a case and/or screen protector on your iPhone? If so, please test with both removed.

Please let us know a bit more information about these issues, so that we can best assist you. Have a great day!

Hi, Melissa.

Yesterday, I did a factory reset with iTunes (I couldn't reset otherwise because of the darn screen time passcode not working or letting me change the screen time passcode). I restored from iCloud backup instead of as a new device and it did not resolve the issue. I also did happen to try to operate the phone without my phone case and it was still acting up. I don't have a screen protector.

I went to sleep last night, woke up today and the phone was in perfect working order. I had already made an appointment to go to the Apple store (Genius), so I went ahead and did that. They ran diagnostics on it and it showed normal other than some battery degradation (90% iPhone X that's 3 years old). He recommended that if it started acting up again, to do a factory reset, but instead of iCloud backup, to "setup as a new device" (which you alluded to above). I will do that if the problem persists. If that doesn't fix it, it's time for a new phone, as the 3 year warranty is up and cost to replace is $549.

He did not have an answer specifically as to whether it was software (14.5 iOS update) or hardware (screen touch interface) related. I suspect it was the iOS update, as that's precisely when the problems began. Thanks for your response.

Hello,

My phone is starting to act up again with the screen touch malfunctioning. It doesn't respond when it's sleeping and I tap on the screen. Also scrolling in apps is difficult as it seems to recognize touch that's not happening. If I do a factory reset and set up as a new phone, what data can I be assured is saved to my iCloud account? In other words, will my messages, email, notes, reminders etc. be on my phone once I log into my iCloud account and then I'll just have to set up all apps I'm missing and other settings like background and app order etc? Thanks.
