Debris is the Culprit:

Seems to me there is some debris in there, if it is opening only with extra effort. So, get the debris out. To do so, use an air canister (on your own risk), or contact Apple or an AASP to get this serviced.

Contact Someone:

Contact Apple or your location retailer, see what they offer for services and prices. For a somewhat older phone, Apple may or may not offer such service, so using an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider) may be the way to go about getting the debris out.

I. Apple Phone Support:

Why the Wait:

Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due do lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)

II. AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider):

  1. Go Here: Find Locations - Apple Authorized Reseller
  2. Click: Service & Support
  3. Enter: your location information
  4. See: if there is an AASP nearby
  5. Contact: an AASP that shows up, and find out more about the services that they offer to fix the device
