Apple Watch 3 series failed update

when I enter the apple watch app It instantly enters the page for updates, and the only options is to download or cancel (if cancel then either “continue updating” or “cancel and restart Apple Watch”). I try to update and after some time I get an error message saying there is too little storage and I have to delete something. But I can’t go back to the Apple Watch app to delete anything because I’m locked into the update page. It doesn’t help to restart phone or force close the app. I still enter the update page when I return. I have tried disconnect Apple Watch from iPhone but once I connect/pair them again I once more get the message where I have to update my watch. So I’m completely locked. What can I do?
