After installing the last update for Monster Legends on my iPhone 12, I am now unable to open the app. When I tap on the game icon, it immediately shuts down but is open with a black screen in the background when I swipe to see what apps are open.

Is anyone aware how to fix the app open issue without potentially losing all cumulatively stored playing data?

Hi rlang1255,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities! We're here for you. Let's go over all options to help with this game app.

To start, have you had a chance to restart your iPhone since noticing this issue? If not, let's do so now. Here's a guide with the recommended steps for a standard restart:

Restart your iPhone - Apple Support

If the issue persists after restarting, we recommend ensuring that your iPhone is fully updated to the latest version of iOS. Here's a guide to help with backing up and updating:

If it's still not resolved at that point, we can recommend deleting, then reinstalling the app. This step helps to isolate the issue to your iPhone, or the app itself. If it's still happening, reach out to the app developer by finding their contact information in the App Store, following these steps:

Hi rlang1255,

Great question. It's certainly possible that deleting the app may permanently delete any saved content in the app, as app data is also deleted.

Depending on the game or app, that data may also be syncing to an online service, so that it can be restored after reinstalling the app. To determine if that's the case with your game, you may attempt to install the game on another device first, if possible, to see if the saved data also restores.

Otherwise, you'll want to reach out to the game developer directly to inquire about this issue and options to preserve data before deleting the app. You'll also want to monitor the App Store for any new updates to the app, if it is in fact an issue with the latest app update.

Take care!

Thanks for your reply. I did restart my iPhone 12 Pro numerous times. The Monsters app still does not open.

I have been hesitant to delete and reinstall the app because I do not want to lose years of data and investment in the game. Will deleting and reinstalling the app on my iPhone result in any loss of data? I need to know that for sure before trying that as a solution.
