Very Hepful Sir. It seems Apple has missed an opportunity to enable the insertion of FileName via a drop down Menu item. I believe they had it years ago, but it is certanly not there now. Even if it did not auto-update from the finder , if it would auto update from the Save As Menu, it would be great. Wife cannot keep up with her "New, Copy of Copy of Newest" Documents. She is disorganized and even Apple cannot help on this. Thanks.

Click on the filename displayed above the document window.

A small pane will open with the filename selected. Press command-C to copy the name, then click in the document to close that window.

Click in the header or footer box in which you wish to diplay the name. Press command-V to paste the filename into the box.

You can vier a menu showing the full path to the file by pressing command and clicking the displayed file name, but cannot copy the list (except as an image, by placing the pointer near one corner of the list, pressing shift-control-command-4, then dragging the pointer (now displaying as a cross hair symbol) to the opposite corner of the list, and releasing the mouse button when the selection rectangle encloses what you want to copy. The image is copied to the clipboard, and may be pasted from there to where you want, or pasted to where you can transcribe the text into a header box or elsewhere.

If memory serves, at least one regular participant in this community has posted a script that will gather the full path to the open file, and may be along later to post it or a ink to it here.

Barry

The only means to place a full path to a file in a Pages document without programming is to get the full path[1] from Finder, and then copy/paste it into Pages. This is a fixed path and does not auto-update within Pages when you change the location of the file.

[1] option+right-click on the filename, and from the secondary menu, choose Copy "foo.txt" as Pathname.

This is very helpful Barry. Now, I need to upgrade the question to : How do I copy and display the complete Path & filename to the file (Directories & Filename). I want the path and the filename imbedded in the Pages Document Header to update and help me find the file once it has been moved around , printed , etc. Sort of an Autoupdate feature. It seems I was able in Windows (years ago) to put the fileame with path on each Footer Page at the bottom of a document. That way , if was away, a person who was looking at the Printed Doc could find it.

I know I can spotlight a filename and eventually find it on my wife's computer, but I want to find the one I am looking at on a printed page that has been renamed multiple times. Just something that will point me to the right filename in the correct path (not too deep). I wish Apple would add an "Insert Filename" into a Menu Dropdown. Maybe it is there , but I cannot find it.
