Yahoo email goes missing....

Up until 2 days ago, I have never had a problem with email on my iPhone.
I have not changed any settings which would have caused this issue.

I use Yahoo mail. Email gets sent to my phone with no issue. I can open it and read it. However the issue arises the next time I open up the mail application. Any previously opened/read email is no longer there? I get a very, very brief flash on the screen saying "Load More Messages", however I can't do so.

I upgraded to OS4 the day it became available. No issues until now. I have removed the email account and re-added it. I have reset (not restarted) my phone. I have checked all settings and everything appears normal. I have not synced with my computer. Note: All email missing from my iPhone is still on my computer. All other email accounts are working fine. The issue is with Yahoo only.

Anyone else suffering the same issue? Any suggestions? Without access to my email...it's just a fancy phone.

Are you accessing your Yahoo account with an email client on your computer such as with Outlook or with Windows Mail?

If so, did you create your Yahoo account on your iPhone with the Yahoo account preset?

If yes to both, this means you are accessing your Yahoo account as a POP account with the email client on your computer and as an IMAP account with the iPhone's Mail app which is not ideal.

If you are accessing the account with an email client on your computer, what is the account setting with the email client on your computer for removing messages from the server when downloaded?

You can check the account settings with Outlook on your PC for removing messages from the server when downloaded. If you select Never for this, all messages downloaded with Outlook with the account will not be removed from the server.

In order to create the account as a POP account with the iPhone's Mail app, you need to delete the account and manually recreate the account as a POP account selecting other and manually entering the account settings. And you will need to select Never with Outlook for removing messages from the server if you want all new messages received at the server available for download with the iPhone's Mail app.

Too bad Yahoo doesn't support accessing the account as an IMAP account with an email client on your computer. Yahoo supports this with the iPhone's Mail app only which defeats the purpose.

Thanks Allan. For now I have changed the settings for outllok to leave a copy of the message on the server. I am not so computer savvy, but I assume that means that anything Outlook pulls from Yahoo will remain within Yahoo....and it is Yahoo that my iPhone gets it's copy of the email from? If so...this should solve my issue.
If it doesn't, I will try the other solution you gave me. However I did try that and when I attempted to create and account using "other" it did not give me the option to manually enter the settings. It just something about SSL and not being able to send or recieve mail?
I hope the problem is solved now though. If not...I know who to turn to...thanks again.

You're welcome.

Correct. All email clients on a computer such as Outlook get the email from the server with an email account, and the same with the iPhone's Mail app.

When you use Other to create an account, you select Add Mail Account followed by manually entering your name, email address, your password for the account/email address, and a description for the account. This is followed by selecting POP or IMAP for the account type - in this case you would choose POP followed by entering the incoming mail server and outgoing mail server settings for the account.
