Apple watch update and pairing

I haven’t used my watch in a couple months and I had unpaired it from my phone but now when I try to pair it, it’ll say it needs an update and when i click to update it it’ll have an error message that says something around the lines of “ur not connected to the internet.” and when i click try again it keeps coming up with that message but my phone is connected to the internet. I’m not sure how to fix it, any suggestions?
