Macbook pro keyboard acting sticky

I am not sure what happend but without any external damage my macbook pro keyboard started acting sticky at times, and does not come back up as originally it should.

What can be the issue?

How can i fix it?

If the keyboard needs to be replaced how much would it cost?

Hi aadeshjain,

Thank you for participating in the Apple Support Communities. We understand some of your MacBook Pro keys are sticking, and we'd like to assist. If it's a physical issue with the keyboard, we recommend taking it to an Apple Authorized Service Provider location to have it properly inspected by a technician. This article has some general information on repairs and pricing:

Take care.

You can try cleaning the keyboard by using the instructions in this Apple article, but be very careful to keep the can of compressed air completely upright or you can damage the laptop with the cold wet propellant:

You don't mention the exact model of the laptop which is very important. The 2016-2019 models are known to have issues and Apple provides a free repair program (the laptop must be less than four years old):

FYI, here is the current list of publicly acknowledged free repair programs for various Apple products (some have multiple programs):

Did you check to see whether your laptop may qualify for the free battery repair? If it does, then that will also include a new keyboard. I think the coverage for the battery program is longer, but I'm not certain.

It wouldn't hurt to ask especially if your region had restrictions in place during this time period. You are just slightly past the deadline. Sometimes Apple will make an exception although you are over a month outside the covered period, but with extenuating circumstances regarding COVID you never know.

If you don't have any luck through normal channels, then contact Apple corporate to see if they will make a repair exception. The Apple Store manager may have more leeway in granting an exception than a local AASP, but even the Apple Store manager may have their hands tied.

I wouldn't expect much since Apple of recent years doesn't really help their customers out like they did 10+ years ago, but it never hurts to ask. You just may get lucky. Try to be calm and polite as that does go a long way.

Good luck.

The exact model number is: MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2016, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) it qualifies under the free repaid program.

But i think its been little more then 4 years. (i am not sure of the purchase date)

The bad thing is coz of covid all the service center and shops are closed in my city (as complete lockdown) since a long time.

Has apple increased the time from 4 years to more coz of covid?

Not sure what can be done. I will still try at my nearest service center.

Also wanted to know incase its not included in the free program whats the cost generally of replacing the keyboard. ?

Thanks a lot for all your help.
