Trouble waking from long sleep after upgrading to Mac OS 11.3
When I leave my laptop open but idle for longer than 15 minutes* and return to it, the laptop takes a long time to wake from sleep. I see my user's desktop background, but there is a progress bar that moves across the screen. It takes 30 seconds to a minutes. Then I am presented with a prompt that says I must enter my password to enable TouchID. This behavior began immediately after upgrading to Mac OS 11.3 and has persisted since.
I have had intermittent problems when waking up with my PurgoUSB C Hub Adapter for MacBook. Immediately after upgrading to 11.3, my MBP would not recognize my external USB keyboard after waking up. I had to disconnect the hub and reconnect it to resolve. After rebooting the MBP, this issue has not reappeared.
Similarly, I have had intermittent problems when waking up with my MBP not recognizing my external monitor connected by an HDMI cable through my PurgoUSB C Hub Adapter for MacBook. I have to disconnect the hub and/or HDMI cable several times to get my MBP to recognize the monitor. This behavior began immediately after upgrading to Mac OS 11.3 and has persisted since.
During the slow moving status bar wake up period, I noticed that removing the Purgo adapter caused the wake up to complete almost instantly.
Last, twice my MBP has shown a distorted pink and black screen for a few seconds before power off. This happened after upgrading to 11.3. I cannot definitively link it to the Purgo adapter, but it seems like it might be related to driving the external monitor.
While it would be easy to blame the Purgo adapter, it has worked fine for over a year with this M1 MBP using Mac OS X and Mac OS 11.0 - 11.2 and with my previous MB Air using Mac OS X.
Today, I tried a Belkin USB-C Multimedia + Charge Adapter. Despite multiple attempts connected cables in different orders, I was only able to get the MBP to recongnize the HDMI-connected monitor once.
The monitor is a Dell Ultrasharp 25. Nothing fancy and certainly not 4K.
*Note, I am not certain of the exact required length of idle time to induce this behavior, but I think the minimum is about 15 minutes. If I put the machine to sleep using Apple Menu → Sleep and then wake it up immediately, I am able to use TouchID.
My laptop is connected to the Apple-provided charger (through the Purgo or Belkin adapter). Here are my sleep configurations.
