Red Dot Icon on Messenger in Facebook

The dot usually signifies a new message, however I have a red dot that seems to never disappear - even after a new message is opened and/or replied to. Dot remains. Why?

MacBook Air (2020 or later)

To check your notification settings that are set on your iPhone please follow: Change notification settings on iPhone

Have you tried restarting your iPhone? Here’s how based on your iPhone model: Restart your iPhone

Also, we recommend checking under Facebook app settings rather than iPhone settings.

Thank you for clarifying and giving us an opportunity to assist.

We recommended uninstalling and reinstalling the application, since you are experiencing this problem only on your iPhone.

Thanks for the advice, however in my case it did not work. I have restarted my iPhone, Settings/Change notification settings...I have also gone into Facebook settings.....to no avail. The red dot isn't present on my MacBook Air - only on my iPhone and I guess I will just live with it. Thanks anyways....
