Can I use dual monitoring with my IPad Air and just a basic monitor?

I just received the iPad Air and have the adapter to hook it up to my basic Dell Monitor so I can use dual screens. At the moment, all it does it mirror my screen, but I would like to have multiple apps open and use both screens for separate apps. Is that an option?

That is not a current feature of iPadOS nor a feature announced for release in the future.
