Emailing multiple photos from my phone storage

I have an iPhone XR that I purchased from the Apple store recently. It is operating with IOS 14.4.2

I seem to be having an issue emailing more than one photo at a time. For instance, lets say I take 3 pictures with my phone. I then go to the Photos app, navigate to the photos I shot, tap the up arrow which allows me to select which pictures I want. I then click my Gmail icon to email the 3 selected images and eight times out of ten, the screen will act like its trying to open gmail but then revert back to the screen showing the images I selected. I can do one at a time just fine and occasionally, I can send multiples but only occasionally. I can upload multiple images at once to Facebook and to Messenger, or text multiple images just fine.

My work phone is an iPhone SE with IOS 14.3 and I have no trouble emailing multiple images with that phone.

I upgraded to the XR from my 6Plus which I had for years and I had no problem emailing multiple images on it.

This is really frustrating. More confusing is that occasionally I can do it. There seems to be no rhyme nor reason to when I can and when I cant, but mostly I cant.

Any help or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
