Speaker repairs on Macbook Pro.

So if I pay for iCloud storage and my devices all communicate in sharing and storing data automatically...Why do I have to do aback up still for prior visit to the store for speaker repairs?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.3

You do not have to perform a backup if you do not want to. It is recommended in the event that there is a data loss suffered on your computer during the repair. If you have all your critical data already backed up on iCloud and/or on Time Machine or on an external drive then it is your call whether to backup or not.
