I had the same problem but I have managed to get access to the data using the software called iMazing.

You will need an iPAD or another iPhone that's not running iOS 14.5 or above and a laptop. I used an iPad Mini that's running iOS v12.5 and I used Win 10 Home 64bit.

In a nutshell all you need to do is backup the App data and restore it on the target device. (You don't need to do full backup of everything)

So here is what you do...

  1. Download iMazing software.
  2. Connect your device that has the iPassword data using a USB port on the laptop.
  3. In the left sidebar you will see your device connected, then click Manage Apps. iMazing's Manage Apps wizard opens.
  4. Click the Device tab to see the apps installed on this device. Scroll to find the app you want to back up. Click on the App to select it.
  5. At the bottom of that same screen you will see a Search bar, to the far right of this bar change the drop down (that's next to "Uninstall" button to be "Backup App Data"
  6. Choose a destination folder (by default, this is your Desktop). I chose to keep the default destination as changing the destination didn't work for me.
  7. Click Next and read the Important Notice, explaining that for some apps, not all data will be accessible.
  8. Click OK, and iMazing starts extracting your app's data to a .imazingapp file. This process can take some time so be patient.

Once iManage have finished extracting the data you should see a file on your desktop (or whatever destination you chose) - called iPassword.mazingapp

Restore the App backed up data:

Connect the device you want your data to be restored to....and...

  1. Follow steps 1-4 as above
  2. At the bottom of the screen that you see in Step 4 you will see a Search bar, to the far right of this bar change the drop down (that's next to "Uninstall" button to be "Restore App Data"
  3. The Restore App Data wizard opens. Click the Choose button, and pick the .imazingapp files that you would like to restore. Then, click Done to start restoring the data.
  4. If iPassword is not installed on the target device, iMazing may ask you to sign into the App Store so it can download the software. Enter your password in the dialog, then click Sign In.
  5. Follow any on screen prompt till its restored the data.

IMPORTANT

  1. Do not use iTunes and iMazing at the same time.
  2. Backup in iTunes is disabled if iMazing is running or if iMazing is not shut down correctly from the File menu.
  3. I changed the destination folder to create my App data backup but it errored right at the end. Not sure why. IN my final attempt I kept all default settings and it worked. So try not to change the destination folder and leave it as Desktop.

Enjoy!!!

As AKRBTN correctly points out there have been a number of posts on this. The developer abandoned this app, evidently long ago. If you are looking for someone to be mad at, it's the developer as Apple has no control over 3rd party apps at all. Apple doesn't own nor have access to any of the data contained in a 3rd party app. This is why I would personally never trust a 3rd party application to store my valuable passwords. I use Apple Keychain, which I know will always work as it's Apple AND I have a locked notebook stored safely in my home where I keep track of and constantly update passwords for easy reference. Perhaps some old fashioned methods still have some merit?

From what I remember if you have access to a device not on iOS 14.5, it may be possible to get your data. Contacting the developer seems not to be an option as many have said they tried with no success.

This forum can be VERY helpful, when a user has an issue another user can solve. No one here can possibly solve the issue of an app developer abandoning their app, including, I'm afraid Apple itself. Apple cannot control what a small, likely one man band developer does. When you use a 3rd party app, which is NOT an Apple product, you take your chances.

I agree with you to some extent but Apple shares equal responsibility by allowing 3rd Party developers to use their platforms in return for a charge. Equally, Apple can easily identify Apps that will not function following an iOS update so they should inform people prior to the update to allow people to make an informed choice. In this case, the developer hasn't abandoned the App as there is an exactly the same thing available to download in the App store from the the same developer. The only change is the icon. Apple should not be allowing 3rd party developers on its platform without a proper vetting process. In this case, the developer is a one-man band, has no website, his support medium is his Twitter account and he has nobody to question him if he fails to reply to people.

I’ve seen other replies on this suggesting people go to the app and review it Which I tried to do.I can’t even do that because it doesn’t show up in my apps anymore. I believe they renamed it? I’m still furious about it also and I don’t think I’ll ever trust another password saver app again. I don’t want to go back to the old pen and paper thing again but can’t think of another solution. Maybe taking screenshots of the passwords in your settings app?? Maybe someone else can chime in. My first two posts so I hope I’m not being an idiot here.

Thanks for that info on keychain. Unfortunately, I have all my other info stored in iPassword like SS #s, etc-Things that are not actually passwords but that I had to remember and access quickly if I need to. Maybe putting them in notes is a better way to go. And yes having a notebook with him while and it is the best but I really can’t carry that around all day. Live and learn.

So why can't Apple help all their users in this issue. This is not a normal app. This has, probably thousands of users, sensitive information that has been stored in this app for many years. At least Apple should use their resources to help these people with communicating or finding this Developer and helping to come up with a solution. I know with Apple's resources, this would not be a major thing. We our their customers, we did buy their expensive phones, they did, with their latest update, cause this app to quit working, so you see, this should be a customer support thing. At least, really try and help all these people that are desperate and have no resources to find this developer.

Jun 8, 2021 10:47 AM in response to AKRBTN

I am not saying Apple is at fault, I am saying that Apple should at the very least for their customers, to try and help locate and work with this developer to help fix this issue. Not because they have to, but because they WANT to. Again, Apple has the resources, most of these people are left helpless. I know what people should do, but we all know that everybody doesn't cover every "WHAT IF" scenario. I take it, that you are not one of these people that have trusted and used this app for many years. I hope you didn't.
