reset screen time password?

I have an ipad 5th gen running ios 14.4.2. It is signed into Apple ID with my childs icloud account. The child is a member of my Apple ID family.

He has learned the SCREEN TIME passcode and now just grants himself more time when the configured time limits are over.

I want to RESET THE SCREEN TIME PASSCODE for the device without reformatting it or whatever it is you do.

I have a Mac running 10.14.6 which is the machine I used to set up Family Sharing and add him to my family. I'm not putting Catalina on because a) it is not compatible with some software I use, and b) I am not irreverably upgrading my whole system to change a password on a different device.

THIS GUIDE https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT211021 here on Apple says to use the Change Screen Time Passcode feature and also mentions that in family sharing you won't see it. Is there another way for me to change the fricken code without buying a new mac or wrecking my existing one?

One option which you also say you do not wish to use is:

If you forgot the passcode on your iPhone, or your iPhone is disabled - Apple Support

The only other way I can think of is to go out and buy a flash drive and install Catalina to it. Boot to that drive and use it for just this purpose. Then boot back to your normal drive. Normally flash drives aren't the most reliable boot drives but for quick use like this it might be your cheapest and most painless method.

The third way is parenting. Insist that he tell you the passcode, then you change it and don't tell him what it is. If he won't then take away the phone.
