Keyboard Freeze on Iphone when typing "sp" in contact field

Scenario: I receive a spam text message (daily!!!) and then forward try to forward it to Verizon (trying to do my due diligence in reporting spam). After clicking to forward message I am presented with the contact field to forward the message.

I start to type the words "Spam" to bring up the address of the Verizon spam number I want to forward to and after typing "sp" the keyboard and app freezes. I've attempted this over and over with the same result...freeze!

Please don't respond to this by saying "dude, just rename it to something else and never type 'sp' again." Really? That's not the point.

Any thoughts Apple Genius Nation?

Do you have any third-party keyboards installed? Add or change keyboards on iPhone

If so, does the issue continue if you remove them?

Do you have any updates available? Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch & How to manually update apps on your Apple device

Is this happening in the Messages app?

Let's try to narrow this down a bit. Do you have multiple contacts that start with "sp"? If you change the name of this contact and search for "sp" again in the messages app, does the issue continue? What if you search for the new name of the contact, does it continue?

We ask because we want to try to identify the cause of the issue. Right now we know what the issue is, but it could be caused by the keyboard, Messages app, or the contact or where the contact is stored.

Let us know what you find.

I have Google Keyboard, but the problem exists even when I delete this keyboard. My phone is updated to the most recent OS. This only happens in the messaging app when typing those two letters in succession ("sp"). Weird, I know.
