apple watch update, wifi and pairing issue

My apple watch is due for an update and it currently isn’t paired with my iphone. I went to pair them so it could update but it says my apple watch isn’t connected to wifi, but my phone is. I cant do anything on my apple watch or on the app to connect the watch to wifi. I’m not sure what to do now.
