How to modify the frame rate when capturing

Hello!

I love the screen capture and recording features (accessible with command-shift-5) but when recording the video, the framerate is stuck at 60 frames per second, which generates, of course, HUGE files..

How can I go and change the framerate for screen recordings?

Thanks

I recommend that you post-process the 60fps captured video using the free Handbrake. Quite simple, and this is the outside the Apple box solution, as no Terminal command exists for framerate change:

  1. Launch Handbrake and use the file chooser to select the 60fps capture video (*.mov)
  2. Click the Handbrake Video tab
    1. The default framerate (FPS) selector is set to 30
  3. The default Save As: will be the same filename with the .mp4 extension
  4. Click Start
  5. You have a 30fps screenshot movie on. your Desktop.

I captured a 60fps screen movie using the shift+command+5 shortcut. I converted the 60 fps .mov video to a 30 fps .mp4 in under 30 seconds using Handbrake v1.3.3 on macOS 11.3.1.

Thank you for taking the time to answer.

However, as a professional, I already understood there are no adjustments built-in.

Perhaps I should have been more clear: I need a workaround solution, maybe with Terminal, to reduce the capture framerate.

Just like on the newer iPhones you can switch from 30hd all the way to 60 4K, there has to be an "outside the box" solution to achieve this. 60fps is overkill for most capture tasks.. I mean: This is standard in even your basic video editing software. I'm surprised they went all the way to 60 fps for consumer needs.

Thanks.
