Why doesn't Safari work with the Zoom app?

Yesterday I prepared for my first ever Zoom meeting. Got to the virtual meeting room only to discover that I couldn't get any audio because Safari doesn't support it, so I wasn't able to listen. Why is this so? If it's deliberate that Apple isn't working with Zoom because they have FaceTime, well that's very wrong and old thinking, isn't it?

For the record, yes, my MacBook Pro is an old 2011 model but works well and I believe I've got the latest version of OS I can run. BTW, I can't download the Zoom app either because it won't work with my MacBook Pro.

Have I missed something does Safari really not work with Zoom?

I use Safari with Zoom every week with no issue. So do my Mac-owning friends, so let's save the conspiracy theories for Facebook.

You need to tell us the system version it is running, from "About this Mac." under your Apple menu. A 2011 MacBook Pro can run as high as Mac OS 10.13. Zoom is very forgiving, requiring only macOS 10.9 or higher:

Unless your MBP is hugely behind on system upgrades, yo ucan run Zoom. If yoit is behind, not would be a very good time to upgrade it.
