Nook App on OS?

Why did Apple prevent Barnes & Noble from updating the Nook App to work on OS?

Any application that is not currently sold through the App Store, is not deemed "safe" to work with the OS. However, there are numerous applications that do not get distributed through the App Store. Make sure you are getting it from the official source, and not some third party source. Recognize when you are visiting the true Barnes and Noble website:

https://www.barnesandnoble.com

And only get the software if the prefix includes all of the above and immediately after the .com, it follows with a /.

If it doesn't include the 's', or there is not a lock icon in your browser window with that link, then it is not official. As administrator you can approve software to download from Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Security and Privacy if you know the site is legit.
