Batteries don't last

I've replaced the lithium batteries in my mouse and keyboard three times since July 4 (today is July 31).
Anyone know why or what I should do to improve? I use my iMAC 2-4 hours most days. I bought my iMAC on July 4 at the Mall-Of-America store.

AA batteries aren't lithium based, they're alkaline. Still, that's a touch excessive. Some of the magic mice and wireless keyboards had issues with BT reception, so it couldn't hurt to take them somewhere to be tested. Apple has a diagnostic tool specifically for this, though it's for technicians only.

If they're having trouble getting a good signal, they may be using more energy to try and get one. Kind of like how your cell phone battery will drain faster if you're in areas with poor or no reception.

I am using two sets of Sony CycleEnergy rechargeable batteries in my Magic Mouse. I use the computer 12 to 18 hours some days. I perhaps replace the batteries in the mouse for the other set every 3 weeks. Because they are 1.2V AA rechargeable, they only register as 80% in the mouse even when fully charged. I think that only 1.5V AA batteries register 100%.

You might look into Apple's new charger with 6 long life (10 year lifespan) rechargeable batteries with the eco-friendly charger.

Something is definitely wrong. Do you know if your batteries have been sitting on a shelf for a year or two? When you first insert the new batteries, or say after an hour’s use, do the battery levels reported by the Bluetooth menu item (in the Apple menu bar), show 100% charge? Do you have a store handy that will test the charge on your batteries before you install them?

The Magic Mouse can go through batteries quickly but not that fast! And the batteries last a few months or longer in the wireless keyboard, so if you are replacing the keyboard batteries too, the batteries may be the problem.

Well, I've used some Energizer Ultimate Lithiums in my Magic Mouse and I get about 5 or 6 weeks out of them. That's not really very good, but it's nowhere near as bad as your experience. I bought a package of these to try after going through my original alkalines somewhat more quickly. I use the computer about 3 or 4 hours a day. I think I'll be buying some rechargeable here pretty soon--I might give Apples new ones a try.

On the bright side, I'm still using the original set of batteries (alkalines I presume) that came with my blue tooth keyboard. I bought this 21.5 inch iMac in January. That's good life for the keyboard batteries if you ask me.

Steve M.
