A software update is required to connect to your iPhone

Trying to connect an iPhone 11 to a Mac computer using high Sierra and I’m getting a message that says “a software update is required to connect to your iPhone”. Is this going to update the iOS on my Mac? I can’t currently update the iOS because I need days to remove everything on my Mac and start from scratch. Does anyone know if that is what this is going to do if I hit install?

It won't. It's an iTunes driver update, not an OS upgrade; you should still back the Mac up.
