Thunderbolt 1 and 2 cables and adapters

Is there a difference between cables for Thunderbolt 1 and Thunderbolt 2? And could I use the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter (https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MMEL2AM/A/thunderbolt-3-usb-c-to-thunderbolt-2-adapter) to connect TB1 to TB3?

Hi again nilsens,

Thunderbolt 1 and 2 are the same connections, so the cable and adapters are interchangeable. Learn more here: About Apple Thunderbolt cables and adapters.

We hope this helps!

Hi there nilsens,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you want to be able to connect a Thunderbolt 3 and Thunderbolt 1 and would like to know if the Apple adapter will work. It will work to connect Thunderbolt 1 and 2 devices with Thunderbolt 3 devices. If you are connecting the adapter to some devices an external power source may be required.

We hope this helps!
