Is it true that if AirPods are in the case you can't locate them?

Is it true that if airpods are in the case you can't locate them? The only time I misplace mine, they are in the case. If so any product updates to make this a non-issue? Can't buy them again until I can locate them in their case.

Hello,

If your AirPods are out of Bluetooth range, out of charge, or in the case with the cover closed, Find My won't give a current location. You just have to find them manually by looking for them. However, Find My may list the most recent location where they were last connected.
