Message app

How can i send or receive normal text messages from all my contacts, not through Imessenger

iPad Air, iPadOS 14

Hi DjSharonRPL,

Although not recommend, you would need to disable iMessage: Deregister iMessage on your iPhone or online - Apple Support.

An iPad cannot send or receive SMS/MMS messages except with the help of an iPhone on the same Apple ID set to relay the messages to/from the SMS/MMS system through the iMessage system. It just doesn't have the hardware. (Even iPads with cellular data hardware cannot connect to the voice/SMS part of the cellular system.)

Send messages as texts on a manual basis

Go to Settings > Messages.
Toggle Send as SMS switch to off.
When iMessage is unavailable, individual messages will not send. Tap and hold these individual messages until you get an option menu.
Tap Send as Text Message.
