BigSur/M1 clean install: Not able to install some apps now

Hi

Have had so many issues on my M1, so now I have just again re-installed BigSur from recovery, and has a clean 11.3.1. This is the 3rd time since I received it just after launch last year.

Now I have problems installing some apps like Dropbox or Avira, but MS Office went ok. The app installers launch, and download there full installer, ask for install password, starts installing, but briefly after just terminates. No error message at all. Reboot a number of times and retried. Same behaviour.

Is there some security stuff enabled in this version that will not allow those installs?

br Lars

ps. Just discovered, that all my 8 email accounts setup seems not to be transferred via iCloud this time, so it looks like I have to setup all manually now :-(

I have three other older Mac's running BigSur, so have done this recovery/install quite some times now......

Solved the problems:

After having tried quite a lot of installers, one suddenly asked me to install Rosetta2. After doing that, all previous installers would install without problems.

No internet accounts in iCloud: Logged out of iCloud and deleted all local stuff.

Waited some time and logged ind again, and now I got all my internet accounts, just ready for enabling.

I'm quite tired of all those Big Sur issues!

First, there is no reason to ever install or run any 3rd party "cleaning", "optimizing", "speed-up", anti-virus, VPN or security apps on your Mac.  This user tip describes what you need to know and do in order to protect your Mac: Effective defenses against malware and other threats - Apple Community.

There are no known viruses, i.e. self propagating, for Macs.  There are, however, adware and malware which require the user to install although unwittingly most of the time thru sneaky links, etc.

Anti Virus developers try to group all types as viruses into their ad campaigns of fear.  They do a poor job of the detecting and isolating the adware and malware.  Since there are no viruses these apps use up a lot of system resources searching for what is non-existent and adversely affect system and app performance.

There is one app, Malwarebytes, which was developed by a long time contributor to these forums and a highly respected member of the computer security community, that is desshoigned solely to seek out adware and known malware and remove it.  The free version is more than adequate for most users.

Also, unless you're using a true VPN tunnel, such as between you and your employer's or bank's servers, they are useless from a privacy standpoint: Public VPN's are anything but private.

So uninstall Avira according to the developer's instructions and any other of that type of app.
