How to see WiFi password on macOS Big Sur

My Mac is hooked up to my wi fi. I just purchased a new phone and lost my wi fi password. Is there anyway I can find my password for my wi fi on my laptop Mac?

On your Mac, launch Keychain Access (from the Utilities folder).

click on passwords from all the items on the left.

look through the list until you find something that resembles the password for your Router OR enter the network-name in the search bar.

Select that item and double-click on it or choose GetInfo.

In the dialog box that is presented, click the [_} Show Password box.

Enter your login password on the pane that opens.

The password for that item will be revealed to you.

Please read

Section: If you don’t know the Wi-Fi password

If your cable or internet provider set up your Wi‑Fi router:

  • Look for a label on the side or bottom of the router. It might show the default network name and password.
  • Network Name (SSID): XXXXXXXXXX
  • Network Key (Password): XXXXXXXX
  • If your provider gave you a setup sheet, it might show your default network name and password.
  • Contact your cable or internet provider for help recovering or resetting your Wi‑Fi password.

Launch Keychain Access.

Keychain Access > All Items Tab

> "System"in the sidebar

Select the wifi name, right click it and choose "Get Info'

Enter admin.name and password twice

Enable "Show password"

Password will be revealed.

You are amazing!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! Because of your step-by-step guide, I was able to get my wi fi password and set up my new device.

I cannot thank you enough. I wrote the password on my router so this will never happen again.

Thank you again to everyone that has tried to help me. This is an amazing group. In this crazy world, it's nice to know that there are still many people willing to go the extra mile to help someone in need.

Unfortunately, I live in an apartment and it's not mine. I've checked to see if there was a label that had all the setting, but there's not. Very frustrating. When I called the internet (Spectrum) provider they told me that couldn't help me because its part of the complex. I'm told there's a way on my Mac to find the password log in information, but I cannot figure it out. Anyone with a MacBook Pro out there that can help me with this? I have a new devise, but cannot use it until I set up the wi fi. HELP

As you are not the contract holder of the internet service, you will need to contact the organisation that has the contract for the internet service. for the apartment complex. They will either provide assistance or not depending on whether they have an agreement with you to let you access the internet.

I know there is a way to show what your WiFi password is on a MacBook Pro. Is there anyone out there that can help me with a step by step instructions on how to display the password? I'm 69 years old, and all this tech stuff is way above my pay grade LOL. I'd appreciate anyone that can walk me through this process. I'd even be willing to pay someone to help me. I just purchased a Galaxy Z Fold2 phone and cannot hook it up to my wifi. I contacted Spectrum, and they were useless because I live in an apartment complex and they sent me a link with the password, but it has not worked. Thank you everyone!!!
