Downloading from itunes to ipod

I just installed itunes 12.11.3.17, and tried to download my podcasts to my ipod. However, it said I had to install the ipod support software, which I tried to do. I got the error message 'the ipod support software could not be installed because the signature file was invalid'. Now, itunes does not recognize my ipod so I can't put anything on it. Any ideas? Thanks!

Contact Apple Support:

Ask Apple for assistance with downloaded installing this software. They’ll run you through the fix. It probably is an error with the connection to Apple’s servers.

Note: Phone calls are taking a bit to go through at the moment, due do lots of calls. With the Coronavirus Pandemic, many are at home at the moment, with much time on their hands to contact Apple. So, just stay on the line, and you will get through :)
