Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities JeffSmith22,
Thank you for contacting us regarding your email accounts. We want to do what we can to resolve the issue but may need more information. Restart the phone being sure you slide to power off. Are you getting any error messages? Can you get email from their webmail? We recommend making sure your Operating System is the most current, Settings > General > Software Update. Make sure your don't need to update the password Settings > Mail > Accounts. We would also recommend contacting the service provider to confirm all the settings are entered correctly.
After going over these steps, if you are still having an issue with email, please reach back out to us for more assistance.

JeffSmith22,
Thank you for reaching out to us with more information on what you are wanting to do. Yes you definitely can erase the iPad and restore it from a previous backup. The other option is to use the Mail Settings Lookup article below and it should give you the settings you need. Then you can remove it from the iPad and set it back up.
If you can’t send email on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
Reference: the bottom of the article - Remove your email account and set it up again
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
JeffSmith22,
Thank you for following up.
To confirm, are you now able to send and receive email to your account?
You mentioned wanting to restore your settings from a backup. Are you referring to your Mail settings? If so, check out this article for details about the type of information that can be restored from a backup: Backup methods for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
If you're referring to something else, please provide a few more details about the type of settings you'd like to restore.
Take care.
JeffSmith22,
Thank you for more detailed explanation.
To confirm, you want to now restore from a backup for your mail settings?
Since your email is working now, we would recommend that you do a backup now. That will preserve the settings that are entered now, while it's working. We wouldn't want to restore it to a point where it wasn't working.
The other thing you may want to do, is take a screenshot of the settings. Then it would be stored in your photo album to reference back to.
Hope this answers your question!
I can’t reply, why?
It worked that time
Can I use a back up to restore settings
Yes I was talking aboutMail Settings.
So I can restore a backup, write down the settings then restore a more current backup
