trying to open a .FW file
I am trying to update the firmware on an Atomos Inferno. The file extension (.FW) is not recognized by Mac File Opener (default app). Does anyone have a suggestion tp fix this?

Does the Atomos Inferno allow you to load firmware from within its user interface (if it has one)?
Usually, firmware files are binary objects, and should not be opened other than by the device they are intended to be installed into, or by explicit vendor software that connects to the device and applies the firmware update. Contact the vendor of this device and follow instructions for applying firmware updates.

You don't need to open the .fw file on your Mac. The file is for your Atomos device.
Read the instructions for using the firmware upgrade file here.
That's the problem. The Atomos site has very explicit instructions for firmware updates. They offer a .zip file that has to be downloaded, unzipped and then installed on the Inferno thru an SSD.
I am stuck until I can unzip the file.
thanks. I confused unzipping with opening. appreciate the help.
