Importing from external hard drive

Recently updated to Big Sur. My import process was always from a hard drive. Footage is stored on the hard drive in camera folders>import to fcpx and copy to library from that hard drive. Forever this has worked without issue.

First time today it isn't working on different devices. FCPX either crashed or when it did load it missed large batches of clips which is disconcerting. Is this a known error or is there a workaround?

The footage is .mov files shot on the GH5.

Many thanks!

DON’T mess with permissions on the drive unless you are sure that you know what you are doing.

What Tom talked about is in

System Preferences->Security & Privacy->Privacy: click “Full Disk Access” on the left and see if Final Cut Pro is on list.

If not, click the padlock, enter your password as requested, click + and add Final Cut Pro to the list.
