Apple ID two-step verification

My two-step verification setup is currently pointing to my phone in Portugal. When I move back to the US and get a US phone number how do I access Apple ID to change my account to the new number if the verification code is being sent to a number in Portugal that no longer exists?

See if anything here helps. If necessary, you can use account recovery as explained in the link at bottom of the article.
