I can't add cards my Apple Watch wallet

After I added my VISA card to my iPhone wallet, I tried to add the card to my Apple Watch wallet by clicking "add card" from Watch app on the phone. But I got "Software update required to add this card" message. I was able to add my old card to my Apple Watch wallet about a year ago by doing the exactly same way but not this time. My phone is iPhone 8 with latest iOS (14.5.1) and my watch is 1st gen with watchOS 4.3.2.

I have the same issue. I bought a first gen apple watch for first, of course I want to try how much would I use it, how much would I like it before just buying a bigger one. I wanted to add, same error message. Maybe it’s not supported anymore, but it’s kinda sad. Feels like they want to force to buy a newer one.
