My MacBook is showing images in reverse

My Apple Mac is showing images in reverse and some text (headings mainly) has a shadow around it:

This seems to have started after the last Big Sur update. Is there a software setting I can change?

thanks Monique

moniquefrombeaumaris,

We appreciate that additional information and that picture.

Next, let’s check if there are any color filters being used on your Mac and calibrate the colors on your display.

If this continues after performing those steps, let’s create a new test user and see if the color appears as expected when logged into the new user account.

Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac

Best regards.

Hello Monique,

We understand that images and text aren’t appearing as expected on your Mac. We’d like to help however we can.

To confirm, is your Mac running the latest version of macOS, 11.3.1?

How to update the software on your Mac

Is this happening in all apps or only in specific apps? If this is happening in apps like Safari, let’s follow the steps outlined here to see if they help:

Change the font size or zoom level of web pages in Safari

If you need further assistance, please provide more details on what you are seeing.

Cheers!

Hi Ben_Z1,

Thanks for answering. sorry I lost the link to this.

yes I'm on MacOS 11.3.1.

the problem occurs everywhere, internet, email, word, zoom, viewing photos.

I took a photo of my zoom session on my Mac and my PC to show the colour differences. hopefully that's better at showing what I see? you can see the top right image in zoom is the same image as on the larger screen.... supposedly?

Since only one of the pictures in your original post are visible (the one showing the "Top Stories" that picture looks good which would indicate you most likely have an issue with the laptop's built-in Display. You can confirm this diagnosis by connecting an external display (and enable mirroring). If the issue only affects the laptop's built-in Display, then the laptop's built-in Display is bad and the laptop will need to be repaired.

If both displays show the same issue, then either you have a GPU issue or you have some sort of settings or software issue.
