Back of Apple watch showing signs of oxidation

My watch which is five months old (a Christmas present) is showing signs that coating on the back is coming off. The local Apple Store said this was cosmetic which I would dispute.

To be clear this watch has not been worn in water, (bath, shower or swimming).

Has anyone else had any issues, if so how was it resolved?

Apple Watch, 4
