iPhone stuck on connect to iTunes logo

my iphone 6s plus is stuck in recovery mode on the connect to iTunes logo and when i connect to iTunes to recover, i get an error message that says the phone cannot be restored. Is my phone not able to be restored or is there another option, something I'm doing wrong?
