How do you block unwanted calls without blocking all calls?

My phone is A phone and needs to do its job like ring when somebody calls. Why would I block all incoming calls that are not on my contact list? There are some people who rely on clients calling their cell phone and don’t always know who it is. However if I block a number it’s pretty asinine when that number keeps coming back up! Especially spam! The solution suggested to block all unknown numbers is stupid. Because that’s what a phone is for! I did not spend all this money to buy multiple Iphones for private use and work. I want a phone to do with the phone is supposed to do and ring when someone calls and block the ones I don’t want to hear especially the obvious spam. And the only other suggestion is to go back and manually block the number using the area code and then again using the one before the area code and then again and then again and then again? What good is Siri if you can’t tell it to block and keep a phone number blocked??!!!! What a jip! You’re telling me those are the only two suggestions? The only two options? Seriously!? How do we have so much technology at the tip of your fingers but we can’t block unwanted calls? WTH?!

See the following from Detect and block spam phone calls - Apple Support

It does not involve blocking all calls not in your contacts and it does not involve manually blocking a number.

Set up an app to filter and detect spam calls

  1. Go to the App Store and download an app that detects and blocks spam phone calls. You can download and install multiple apps with this feature from different app developers.
  2. Go to Settings > Phone.
  3. Tap Call Blocking & Identification.
  4. Under Allow These Apps To Block Calls And Provide Caller ID, turn the app on or off. You can also reorder the apps based on priority. Just tap Edit and then drag the apps in the order you want them.

Phone numbers that appear under Blocked Contacts are numbers that you manually block.

When you receive a call, your device checks the caller’s number and compares it to the list of phone numbers in your third-party spam apps. If there's a match, iOS displays the identifying label chosen by the app, for example Spam or Telemarketing. If the app determines that a phone number is spam, it may choose to block the phone call automatically. Incoming calls are never sent to third-party developers.

If you determine that a number is from a spam caller, you can block the number manually on your device. Phone numbers that you manually block appear under Blocked Contacts.

If you no longer want to use the app, you can remove it.
