error code 53

phone worked normal last night, this morning just a black screen, did a hard reset, screen would turn white with apple logo for a few seconds then go blank. connected yo itunes, did update but message came up saying had to restore, did restore now screen is white with restore 75%, nit moving an error code 53. This is the 4th device that this has happened to over the last 2 years, does apple put a self destruct timer in their devices to force you to purchase a new device. is there any hope for this phone?
