Use of an Unisnataller:
Likely, you are required to use an uninstaller. So...
Important:
Create a Time Machine Backup, First:
Prior to the installation of this software, be certain to backup your Mac using a Time Machine Backup. That way, you can have something to restore your Mac from, should anything go wrong with the uninstall. Use an external hard drive that is at least 1.5 the total storage capacity.

Most AV Apps fail to remove all their junk, this free App will point out what to Clean Up...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
EtreCheck is a FREE simple little diagnostic tool to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac. It will not display any personal info.

Hello again. This may seem a silly comment but are you sure you have av on your device in addition to the built-in protection that comes with Apple hardware and software? If so, you cannot uninstall because separate anti-virus protection has not been installed.
This is what Apple says about its built-in security. https://www.apple.com/uk/macos/security/
I have Intego which I installed and re-installed recently. I downloaded an app from the Intego website with which you can choose to install or uninstall its software. It was quite straightforward, even for me as a non-tech person.
As previously advised, visit the website of your virus checker and see what it says, visiting its support if needed.
If you download etrecheck & run it to generate a report that we or you can look at then yes, it'll tell you.
Pastebin is one place you can post the report for us to see, or the tiny mountain pic icon.
To TheLittles: Don't assume Kcmickley has Intego. I mentioned Intego as an example of how I uninstalled and re-installed its software. At this moment, I do not think it is determined which, if any, av is installed on Kcmickley's device.
what AV package is installed?
Check the developers webpage. Follow their directions.
Drag and drop the app to the trash usually won't work for AV Packages to be fully uninstalled.
How do you find out? I don't see anything in my apps. All I can find out is that av software is already installed in a MacBook Air.
I am sorry I don't understand. If I go to etrecheck or pastebin, it will tell me what av software I have?
