Iphone 5s Not Charging

My Iphone 5s won't charge it shows a blinking red battery and lightning cable at the bottom and doesn't seem to detect the charger. When I plug it in the screen turns on showing the same red battery and cable which I know means it is not charging, I attempted to leave it on the charger anyway but still no charge. Can anyone help with this issue please?
