Email account stopped

My email account stopped working/ updating on my iPhone. New messages are not posting and any sent emails are not being sent..... getting error messages about the server not recognizing etc. I have already reentered the correct/current password for both the incoming and out going servers.

I have an old iPhone 5s and the system is iOS 12.5 just updated by Apple.

The email account is working fine when using my laptop, with the same password.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you !

iPhone 5s, iOS 12

Remove your email account and set it up again

Make sure that all of your emails are there or make sure that your email is saved somewhere other than your device. On your device, go to Settings > Mail, then tap Accounts. Tap the email account that you want to remove. Tap Delete Account.

If you can't send an email on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch

  1. When you make an iOS or iPadOS backup in iCloud or iTunes, it backs up your mail settings, but not your email. ...
  2. Make sure your device is connected to the Internet.
  3. Check with your email service provider to find out if there's a service outage.

Thanks for taking time to answer the email. I am not very competent on this type problem.

As you reference above ...... I do want to be sure that I do not loose my emails. I am hoping that since also use the same email account on my laptop, that if I remove the account from my phone, that I will not loose the emails.

Also, I am thinking/assuming that the emails are backed up in iCloud....... but not sure how it all works.

Thanks again for any comments you may have to guide me in the process.
