Network adapter 802.11ac WiFi lag spikes then disconnects.

Hi I’m trying to figure out how to fix the 802.11ac network adapter from randomly disconnecting. The driver version is 7.77.119.0. I have been trying to get a fix. I’ve tried to download a different network adapter 802.11n. but couldn’t figure out how. I’ve tried going in power management and unchecking “allow this computer to turn of this device to save power”. Also I tried to install windows support software but I don’t have a usb or anything of the sorts. Nothing works pls help me fix this.

From a CMD window with administrative rights, post the output of

NetSh WLAN Show All

See https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/analyze-the-wireless-network-report-76da0daa-1db2-6049-d154-7bb679eb03ed for reference.

The output can be long. You can use the text box in the bottom of the Reply box to attach the text.

Run broadcomwirelesswin8x64.exe and check the version in Windows Device Manager. If it shows the .68 version, test and verify.

If you still see 7.77.x driver, you should update the driver manually. For manual update, right-click on the Broadcom adapter, on the Driver tab, select Update Driver -> Have Disk and point to broadcomwirelesswin8x64.exe file.

Your Windows automatically decides which one to pick. Based on the output you posted

SSID 5 : Bman

    Network type            : Infrastructure

    Authentication          : WPA2-Personal

    Encryption              : CCMP

    BSSID 1                 : 98:9d:5d:1b:ca:91

         Signal             : 85%

         Radio type         : 802.11n

         Channel            : 6

         Basic rates (Mbps) : 6

         Other rates (Mbps) : 9 12 18 24 36 48 54

    BSSID 2                 : 98:9d:5d:1b:ca:99

         Signal             : 80%

         Radio type         : 802.11ac

         Channel            : 157

         Basic rates (Mbps) : 6

         Other rates (Mbps) : 9 12 18 24 36 48 54

the Windows installation is picking up what it considers the optimal radio. .11ac offers better throughput than .11n.

To force the use of .11n,

  • you will need to turn off .11ac on the gateway, or,
  • move farther away from the access point, which attenuates the .11ac and forces the Mac to switch to .11n.

If you click on Windows Device Manager -> 802.11ac adapter, and click on Driver tab, do you have an option to 'Rollback driver'? If yes, what are the available versions.
