My printer will not print in color. it did when I first bought a new iMac, but now only in black and white. Has new ink

I have an older printer that has stopped printing in color. It has plenty of ink, fairly new cartridges, but will only print in black and white. I have tried systems preferences, but can't connect to the printer. It worked when I first hooked it up to my new iMac, then just stopped

Do the following:

1 - log into a vanilla admin user account, Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac and see if the problem persists. This tells us if the problem is limited to your user account or is system wide.

If the problem persists in the other account continue with:

2 - boot into Safe Mode according to Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support and see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and check again.

NOTE: Safe Mode boot can take up to 10 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

If the problem persists after the normal reboot go to the System/Printers & Scanners preference pane, Control (right) - click on your printer and select Reset Printing system from the contextual menu.

You'll have to add your printer again as you did originally. This Apple document describes the process: Reset the Mac printing system to solve a problem - Apple Support
