any updates for macBook Air 2012?

how can I get updated OS?

I can't seem to get above 10.13.6 and many apps will not download

If it is a mid-2012, you should be able to upgrade to Catalina (but not higher than that). How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

The model year of a MacBook Air is available at Apple menu > About This Mac.
