    Why am I getting a "terminal-bash 80x24 screen"?

    Why not?

    Your question is unclear.

Are you saying, out of no where, the Terminal opens and you now have this strange window on your display?

Are you saying, you want to know why your Terminal window is 80 columns wide, but 24 lines tall?

Are you saying, you want to know why bash is your Unix shell?

Are you saying, when you launch Terminal, you have a message on the screen or in the title bar saying: "terminal-bash 80x24 screen"?

    Can you clarify?

    Thanks for your response Bob

One day This showed up on my dock: " >_ ",

Now when I click on it I get:

    A screen titled: Terminal -- bash -- 80x24
Last login: Sat Jul 31 16:04:25 on ttys000
    c-24-21-178-43:~ robertschoenfeld$

I don't know what the above means. Can you advise me?

    Thanks, Robert

It's just a dock icon for Terminal. Quit it, right-click it, select "Options" and you can remove it. (Or you can drag it out of the dock and it will vanish in a puff of smoke.

That is the Terminal, which is for accessing the Unix underpinnings of the OS. You do not need to have it on the dock... just drag it off. (If you ever need it again, it's in the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.)

    Hi there,

Does someone have any hint on changing the less configuration when reading man pages? Used display gets half width and height when I call a man page (using less), and scrolls down full screen height and scrolls up half height size. I did try some config, but had no success.

    Thank you, K.

That has nothing to do with this topic, and is on the wrong forum. Start your own topic on the [Unix forum|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=735].

    Hi T,

I am sorry to bring more questions to an answered topic.

You would excuse me getting to know that I only exposed my missing knowledge right here because various users appeared to be interested in the shell's lines and columns settings, as made very clear with the quoted TERMINAL BASH 80X24 term in title.

I am willing to have a better understanding in the future. Thank you again for clarifying, K.
